I am not sure why we talk about socks so much on this blog. Is it too much? Impossible. Truly, the quest for the perfect no-show sock, at least, is never-ending. I cannot claim to have found it, but I have found an excellent one, from Nice Laundry.
They are thin, yes, but not too thin so as to feel weird or slippery. They have rubber grips in the back to prevent slipping off. They have subtle, but noticeable, ribbing around the foot’s arch. And, certainly most important for such a sock, are truly “no-show.” I have worn these with shoes that other socks always seem to peek out of, but something about the way these are cut — at least for my feet — really renders them most invisible.
Indeed, I actually think these best the Bombs no-show sock, given these are actually a touch thicker, have that ribbing, and come up a bit higher over the top of the foot as well for more coverage.
They seem to shrink a bit in the wash (well, dryer), so keep that in mind. But Nice Laundry offers a 100% guarantee on your first pair, so if you don’t like them, send them back, as they say.
Oh, and a word on no-show socks in general, for the uninitiated: The idea is, as stated, for the socks to not show. At all. That is the whole point. Okay, if they peek out here and there if you look only from a specific vantage point, fine. But more than that; if they are seen most of the time from most angles, you’re doing no-show socks wrong. Why wear no-show socks at all? Well, consider the alternatives. You could wear a full sock, but this doesn’t look great with certain shoes, including loafers, Belgians, sneakers with shorts, and so on. So, there are many times when you want to look as if you are not wearing a sock. So why not wear no sock at all? Well, it’s doable. I have done it. I still do it, depending on the shoe. But most shoes, most of the time, going truly sock-less is simply too uncomfortable and prone to blisters. Again, at least for me and my feet. Perhaps your feet are different. Perhaps you can never wear a sock again and experience nothing but bliss. Perhaps I am jealous.
