Spier & Mackay has been making some of the coolest, nicest outerwear for a few years running now. And, as usual, it’s quite affordable too. This year they made some bomber jackets out of gorgeous tweeds, and, being a sucker for houndstooth, I had to grab myself one.
The quality is on-point with typical Spier & Mackay stuff; solid, reliable, worthy of its price, but not quite luxury. The fabric is even nicer in person, and coming from Abraham Moon, I suppose that is to be expected. Again, I cannot express how unique and eye-catching of a jacket this is. I truly have never seen anything like it, and all the details were perfectly executed here. The buttons have a wonderful shade of brown, and complexity up close. The ribbing at the cuffs is slim and comfortable. The only thing I would have changed — and I often have this issue with Spier products — is that the sleeves fit quite baggy. This was nothing my tailor couldn’t fix in a jiffy, but this is something to bear in mind when buying these. The fit of the rest of the jacket — length, chest, waist, etc. — was all spot-on.
Overall, chalk this one up as another win for Spier & Mackay.
