We have been fans of Kent Wang here at The Peak Lapel for a while. They are one of the best values in menswear out there right now, despite not having the fame/notoriety that some other brands do. They are a small, online haberdashery, essentially, that carries some killer shirts, polos, sweaters, even suiting (more on this some time soon, we hope!).
They recently released a new batch of their polos and we ordered a navy and white, the former in Medium and the latter in Large. A great pique polo is an absolute must-have for the warmer summer months, yet they are harder to come by than you would think. They usually have a huge logo on the chest, have a small flimsy collar, or are so cheaply made as to disintegrate after just a few wears. Kent Wang polos, of course, suffer from none of these problems. Which, again, is rare.
To start, they are made with high quality fabrics, and use mother of pearl buttons. The collar is a beautiful spread that lays nicely on the neck and shoulders, and would even work well under a sport coat. I have never seen a polo collar quite like this one before. The placket is also nicely proportioned, and is not too long nor too short. Finally, the build quality is sturdy, all the stitching is clean and neat, and this is the sort of polo that will surely survive many years of regular wear.
When it comes to the fit, I personally was seemingly just in between the Medium and Large sizes. You could tailor the size Large, in such a scenario, and still come out ahead of Lacoste or other high end polo brands. I found the chest/armpits a touch tight on both, and would have also loved to have seen a slightly slimmer armhole. Otherwise, this is a wonderful, slim fit garment, that is properly cut, unlike so many larger big box retailers.
Overall, at $65, we heartily endorse these polos. Go grab some!
